Customer Service is the sixth episode of Season 4. It first aired on May 28, 2017.

Brief synopsis[]

"The guys struggle for funding to launch the latest iteration of Pied Piper. Erlich seeks to join the new VC firm formed by Laurie and Monica. Dinesh and Gilfoyle clash over the alpha build."

Plot summary[]

Richard is frustrated that no venture capital firms will talk to him about Pied Piper. Jared, still living in Erlich's garage, considers buying a condo that hasn't been built yet. This gives Richard an idea: instead of trying to get venture capital for Pied Piper, he should instead try to get customers.

With Erlich tagging along, Richard talks to several potential customers, who are all disappointed that Gavin Belson is not coming along. The last potential customer they talk to, FGI, an insurance company, looks promising. They talk to Liz Tinsdale (Leisha Hailey), who decides to bring the company's chief technical officer (CTO) into the conversation.

The CTO turns out to be Dan Melcher (Jake Broder), who punched Erlich at TechCrunch Disrupt because Erlich had sex with Dan's wife. Now Dan's engaged to be married to Liz.

Even so, Dan might go for Richard's deal. Richard quite sensibly asks Erlich to sit out the next meeting with Dan. Then, predictably, Liz, having second thoughts about marrying Dan, winds up having sex with Richard.

However, the sex with Richard was bad and elbowy. Liz decides she will marry Dan after all, and they will never speak of this again.

Meanwhile, Erlich visits the new offices of Bream-Hall, the new venture capital firm headed up by Laurie Bream and Monica Hall. Erlich wants a job at Bream-Hall, but given Erlich's track record for irresponsible spending, Laurie Bream flatly refuses.

Monica does give Erlich some Bream-Hall swag. Erlich, feeling very pathetic, goes buy day old donuts at a coffee shop and gets mistaken for a Bream-Hall employee. Erlich convinces VR Wunderkind Keenan Feldspar (Haley Joel Osment) to sign a deal with Bream-Hall.

Back at Erlich's house, Dinesh and Gilfoyle stand up a prototype of Richard's new Internet and wind up with their phones having each other's data. Jared desperately tries to keep the peace, but fails. The confrontation ends with Gilfoyle throwing Dinesh's phone in the toilet and Dinesh crushing Gilfoyle's phone with a rock.

Deleted scene[]

Erlich, making a phone call next to the pool, gets hung up on. Jian-Yang, floating in the pool, takes the opportunity to delight in Erlich's misery.
