The Hacker Hostel is a house that was purchased by Erlich with money earned from the sale of the company he founded, Aviato. As Erlich describes it, the location is a "tech incubator" where programmers such as Richard, Big Head, Dinesh, Gilfoyle and, Jian-Yang live and work in exchange for 10 percent of their potential businesses.
While he expects results, or at least headway on projects he deems promising, Erlich himself does not appear to be doing much more than lording over the rest of the group and smoking copious amounts of weed.
